Nebraska has traditionally been well-cushioned against large fluctuations in the national economy due to its combination of farm and non-farm industries. Agriculture is the driving force for Nebraska’s economy, though more of Nebraska’s income has come from other industries in recent years. Geography & Climate
Nebraska, located in the north-central United States, is home to the Platte River which flows west to east through the central part of the state into the Missouri River. The Platte is too shallow for navigation, but is an important source of water for irrigation, municipal and industrial uses, recreation, hydroelectric power production, and wildlife habitat. The Platte River Valley has been an important east-west human transportation corridor throughout history.

History
Several Native American tribes, mainly the Pawnee, Ponca, Omaha, Oto, Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho, lived in the Nebraska region prior to settlement by white explorers and fur traders in the 18th century. The pioneers transformed the state from a land considered unfit for cultivation to an agricultural oasis.
